Speaking of much-needed cheering up..

This week's online BOOST theme has been a quite interesting one. We worked on Owning our Space.

Seems simple enough, right? But it's not always easy to do.

As those of you who know me may know, I've struggled a LOT over the years with confidence and self-esteem. Not just in dance, but in LIFE. For various reasons I never felt quite 'accepted' as a youngster. I did not fit in. I didn't want to 'stick out' to much either. Add to that some generational trauma and not-so-healthy relationship choices.. and slowly, over the years.. I somehow lost my sense of 'self'.

This also translated in dance, and in my movements/posture, even though I was already doing better (ish!) by the time I started dancing (now almost 20 years ago) Those many years of taken-on negative self talk took quite a bit of un-doing, and as I mentioned in today's IG live session - lots of stop-and-go retries and to finally get re-acquainted with my truest self. It was quite an (inner) adventure.

This kind of stuff can run quite deep. And I don't think I'm alone in this, either. (Does this resonate with you? if yes, let me know!) Ahh.. so how to then TAKE UP SPACE?

The good news is.. no matter what, this can be learnt. We can re-store our confidence, our movement, our self. There ARE things we can do that help. Or NOT do.

It's never too late.

No matter how you feel about yourself now, you can (and WILL) be able to get better at befriending that which is uniquely YOU.

In today's K-Update as well as in last Sunday's interview I share a bit about what has been most helpful to me to get back on my (mostly mental) feet during the past 20 years (yes, that's how long it took! .. I am a bit older than I look :))

It included things like: creating time (and space) for myself, reading tons of self-help books, movement, meditation, journalling, reaching out to people I could trust, finding ways to physically, financially and mentally take care of myself, and .. time. Patience and time. Being gentle with myself along the way was key.

Also, I noticed(!) that all the things that I create and share online, share this same concept. They are designed to RESTORE. Restore creativity, confidence, and movement/joy.

So I hope it may be helpful to you, too.

My Tip of the week: DON’T WAIT.

Whatever it is you want to do/learn/pursue/create.. do it. It will open up new avenues of creative energy. Even if, ESPECIALLY if, it means taking care of YOU in some way.

There will never be a ‘perfect time’ for those things that we put off. And you don’t need to be more xx/yyy/whatever to being, either.

Do it now. Create. Dance. Rest. Move. See what happens. Life is too damn short.

You might as well enjoy the ride.

And who knows.. you COULD just might encourage & inspire someone else to take positive action, too!

A positive ripple effect.
